He provided great advice that was thoughtful and catered to who we were as a couple – you could tell that he really cared about making the day special for us and something that we would always want to remember.

Audra and Ryan Earl

Married at Newcastle Golf and Country Club

We were able to create the perfect playlist and Al delivered on an awesome dance party.

Carinn and Elliott White

Married at Within Sodo

He takes full responsibility for everything at the reception, from the cake cutting to making sure the photographer is there for every important event. As a bride, this was amazing because I wanted no stress the day of my wedding and that’s exactly what that promise included.

Ellie and James Beckman

Married at Lord Hill Farms

Everyone is talking about how personal everything was and saying it was the best wedding dance party they’ve been to, and so much of that is because of you.

Sarah and Kyle Dominick

Married at Robinswood House in Bellevue

Alan gave me the gift of allowing me to be completely present during our reception because he was managing our per-arranged goals.

Susie and Ari Cetron

Married at Pan Pacific Hotel in Seattle

We needed someone to bring people together who are from diverse backgrounds and walks of life. So, after talking with Alan just two minutes, we realized that he was our guy.

Diana and Jordan Mandel

Married at Ray's Boathouse

An absolute master at what he does and someone who kept the party rolling all night long.

Dorothy and Reid Johnson

Married at Salty's on Alki in West Seattle

We appreciate everything you put into making our night so memorable and fun for all our guests.

Victoria and Michael Villareal

Married at Historic 1625 Tacoma Place

Honestly, it was amazing. Little to nothing went wrong, everyone had a blast, and I know Alan played a huge role in that.

Chelsa and Levon Dunn

Married at Robinswood House in Bellevue

Alan got a great feel for our music style before the event and pulled off the DJ/Emcee role perfectly for us.

Cobie O'Brien and Jeremie Leverich

Married at the Edgewater in Seattle

Do not play

by Alan Music, Reception, Weddings
0

You might call them the worst wedding songs ever. You might think of them as cheesy wedding songs to avoid. You might think of them as great songs that get people to dance with you.

Whatever, the case, thinking about your “Do Not Play” list is very important when you pick your wedding reception dance songs. Figuring out what you DON’T want to hear is as important as what you DO want to hear.

For me, I think some DJ’s can go overboard promoting that they’ll only play “Non-Cheesy wedding songs.” If you want the Chicken Dance, I’m going to play the Chicken Dance. (And just this one little gem of a DJ memory for you today – I have seen plenty of situations where a couple asks for a song like the Chicken Dance, and their guests RUN to the dance floor because it’s part of their tradition.

There’s a group of songs (Chicken Dance, Cotton Eye Joe, Macarena, Y.M.C.A. Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Electric Boogie, Gangnam Style, Wobble and Back Got Back), that I’ll literally ask you about each on on your wedding planning form. (And you can designate “Bring it On,” “Play it if someone requests it” or “No Thanks.”) And I’ll respect your wishes 100%

Now, there are a group of other songs (Celebration, We Are Family, Love Shack, Happy, I Gotta Feeling among them) that have served couples and guests quite well over time. But now, for some people, they are just overplayed wedding songs.  Personally, I’ll always want to hear what you think are too played out.

So here’s a list of 50 songs that are frequently cited as Do Not Plays.

When I think about wedding dance songs in 2017, the list has to start with the “Despacito” remix and then everything else. Really, even the best wedding DJs I know thought it was a bit of a down year for dance music.
